The Chalmers' medals and awards

The John Ericsson Medal

The prestigious John Ericsson Medal is awarded to the best students in each educational area with a degree in Engineering or Architecture from Chalmers in the year preceding the awarding of the medal. The winners will receive a solid silver medal with their name engraved on it, a diploma and a book about John Ericsson at a ceremony in the “Chalmerska Huset” (William Chalmers’ House).

Research Supervisor of the year

By awarding Research Supervisor of the Year, Chalmers wishes to draw attention to the value of good supervision both for the personal development of the PhD and for his/her research results. Chalmers Postgraduate Section proposes the candidate for the award. Contact them if you wish to know more about the Research Supervisor of the Year award.

Chalmers' Equality Award

The Chalmers Equality Award is presented annually to staff or students who promote equality, diversity, and inclusion at Chalmers. The prize is 30,000 SEK and can be used for research, education, or other professional activities. This year, the award was handed out twice:  Bri Gauger was awarded Chalmers' Equality Award 2024 for her work on academic citizenship at her department. Pernilla Wittung-Stafshede and Mary Sheeran were awarded Chalmers' Equality Award 2023 for their work with the Genie initiative. 

Chalmers' Pedagogical Prize

Chalmers' Pedagogical Prize aims to encourage teachers' efforts to enhance and develop the conditions for student learning, in line with Chalmers' goal of "world-class education". The prize is 30,000 SEK and can be used for research, education, or other professional activities.

Chalmers Impact Award

Chalmers impact award is intended to encourage researchers to actively work with utilization of their research for societal impact and to make these efforts visible within both academia and society in general.

Areas of Advance Award

The Areas of Advance Award has been presented since 2010. The award was established in order to highlight Chalmers initiatives where interdisciplinary collaboration contributes to solving the big challenges of the future and strives towards a sustainable society. The award is specifically aimed at challenge-driven interdisciplinary collaborations in research, education and innovation with the potential to make a real difference on the way to a more sustainable society. Particular importance is attached to collaborations that manage to straddle traditional disciplinary boundaries and have substantial existent or potential public benefit.
